Father Benson was born and raised in Kumasi, Ghana. He graduated from the University of Ghana with a degree in Religion & Sociology. He went on to study Theology at St. Gregory the great Provincial Major Seminary in Kumasi. Father Benson was ordained to the priesthood as a Diocesan Priest on December 19, 2020.
Father Benson has been very busy even before he was ordained. Six months before ordination, while still a Deacon in June 2020 he was given the responsibility for all Diocesan Archives. He held that position from 2020 to 2023.
In 2020 and 2021 Father Benson taught French at St. Luke Catholic Elementary School. That was a role he found great joy in, working with the young children and using his linguistic talents speaking French.
From 2022 to 2023, in addition to the Archives position, Father Benson was also given the role of Director of Immigration Office for the Archdiocese of Ghana. This work required him to take care of details for the many priests and other religious who traveled to and from Ghana between other parts of the world.
2022 to 2024 saw Father Benson appointed to the role of Personal Secretary to the Archbishop of Ghana. This required a lot of work and travel with the Archbishop. This was in addition to his ongoing role as Director of Immigration.
For one year, 2022, due to Covid and the illness of another key priest, Father Benson did all three jobs, Diocesan Archives, Director of Immigration and Archbishop’s Personal Secretary.
Also during this time, since his ordination, Father Benson was an Associate Priest at All Saints Parish in Kumasi. He was the Chaplain for the Parish Youth Group which was, and is, very dear to Father Benson’s heart. He saw that role as vital to help the young people in their parish growth, faith growth and human growth. Even now that he is living in Victoria he is still in active contact with the group because of the benefit of modern technology.
Father Benson summarizes all these accomplishments with one word “Grace”. Without the grace of God he wouldn’t have been able to handle all the demands of the various jobs and responsibilities.
In 2024 the Archbishop asked Father Benson to go on a special mission – to Victoria. Thankfully for the parishioners of St. Patrick’s Parish, he said “yes”.
Father Benson has a deep passion for soccer – both playing and watching. He is very skilled and played on the Seminary provincial team having competed at the national level. He also enjoys reading, travelling and exploring, when he can find the time.
Father Benson describes himself as a Diocesan Priest belonging to Ghana but serving the people of St. Patrick’s Parish in the Diocese of Victoria.
